My Project
My AP 3D Art students are ready to spark something special—by leading the restoration of our school's old Raku kiln as their culminating project. This hands-on experience will allow them to apply their artistic and technical skills while also giving back to our ceramics program in a meaningful way.
We’re seeking funding for essential materials and equipment—like fire bricks, kiln burners, trash cans, and protective gear—to refurbish and safely operate the kiln.
Once restored, this unique Raku kiln will become a learning tool not just for AP students, but for the entire ceramics program for years to come.
Through this project, AP students will research, plan, and carry out the refurbishment. They will then share their knowledge by teaching their peers about the Raku firing process—an exciting Japanese ceramic technique involving fire, smoke, and rapid cooling that brings art to life in unpredictable and beautiful ways.
