My Students

I teach both 7th and 8th grade science classes in rural South Carolina. My students love to do hands-on activities! Anything with manipulatives not only gets their attention quickly, but also helps them remember what they learned!

This year, I want to emphasize STEM activities and review games more to motivate their learning and connect what we learn to the real world.

However, our school is Title I school. This means many of our students live in poverty. The tools they need to complete basic work are provided, but there's little for any extras.

My Project

Students will play with the Jenga games in groups of four. They will roll the color block die and get a questions from a review card I've created. The color of the question corresponds to the block they have to remove if they answer correctly. When the tower falls, the students get one point for each block they successfully remove and the student who collapses the tower must subtract 2 points. Winners can pick a prize from my treasure box!

This will help students review for tests and quizzes.

The games can be used with any unit that I create questions for, so it will be used again and again!
