Help me give my students some fun new resources to enhance our learning, including giant playing cards for math, new chairs for our library, and magnetic handwriting paper to help us strengthen our writing abilities.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, I serve students who are faced with many challenges, both inside and outside of school. Many of them begin school with little to no social skills, due to their staying home with only parents, siblings, or neighbors until school age. Because of this, I want to keep their learning simple and meaningful.
Most of my students come from homes where both parents work full time and aren't home to read to them, play with them, or teach them the importance of sharing and having tolerance.
The majority, about 85%, also receive free/reduced-price lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Although I cannot control their home lives, I want to create a nurturing place for them to create a love of learning and a passion for a brighter future.
My Project
Although our days are filled with learning, reading, and building social skills, there is so much more to an effective classroom. Students must feel comfortable and excited to enter their learning space each day. By adding a few simple resources to our classroom, I hope to reignite our learning flame this year!
The best way to enhance students learning is to make it new and exciting.
This will be done by using GIANT playing cards to help us practice all kinds of math skills in a fresh way. My students will love to get cozy with a book in the new fuzzy library chairs. And learning about money will be much more applicable with magnetic money that looks like really currency. This will allow everyone in the room to see the resource, while connecting it to real life. These simple resources can add fun, relevance, and excitement to our classroom.
