Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an inner-city school that serves a Latinx and Black student population. The majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Our classroom supports a range of talented students including English learners and students with exceptionalities.
Our students live in an underserved part of our city and are a diverse group of learners.
They come to school to learn and participate even when the harmful choices and the inaction of our elected officials create extra hurdles to their success.
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, my district gave students back-to-school supplies that included a water bottle. Unfortunately, some students lost their water bottles or the water bottles broke because they were cheaply built. Our school system deactivated water fountains because of COVID-19. The school food includes milk and juice, but students without a bottle cannot use the refillable bottled water stations.
Students need to be hydrated to learn.
Many teachers at my school including myself have purchased bottled water to give to students who do not have a water bottle. This project will help promote the wellbeing of students by keeping them hydrated. I plan to give the water bottles to students in my classroom and to members of the track team, that I will be assisting with.
