My Students
My fourth-grade students attend a very small, rural Pennsylvania school. Many of my students come from low-socioeconomic families and a large percentage of our school qualifies for free or reduced-price lunches. However, our teachers embrace this rural advantage and make the effort to break the mold of the traditional classroom setting by connecting our students to their community and utilizing the plethora of resources that our country setting provides us.
A well-planned teacher has such a positive influence on the climate of a classroom.
Teachers truly lead by example, so they must practice what they preach and maintain a classroom that runs as smoothly as a well-oiled machine. Such preparedness takes time, effort, and the right supplies, but unfortunately, district responsibilities and school budgets dictated by administrators do not always cater to the true needs of the classroom teacher. I take pride in my classroom, and as expectations have evolved for the health and safety of our students, so have our needs. I am looking for some new additions to my teacher toolbox to refresh my curriculum.
My Project
As we all know, public school budgets are under more strain than ever before. There is such a demand to meet the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of our students, and the funds to support extracurricular learning just aren't readily available. Now that we are facing a global pandemic, the opportunities for hands-on learning are becoming even more limited. Students are learning from home and virtually engaging on a variety of platforms. To enrich their learning opportunities for the current school year, I am in need of a fresh collection of learning tools to engage my students and better meet their unique needs.
Through TeachersPayTeachers, I'm hoping to gather a toolkit of resources that will be more engaging than the traditional paper and pencil or typing tasks that have been used in the past for flexible instruction.
TPT has a plethora of digital props and lesson studies that have been designed for use in an online or in-person environment, saving me hours of prep work and granting me the gift of time to better engage with my students. The ink, stapler, and paper cutter, will allow me to print and laminate our new resources for regular, sustainable use for many years to come. There is no doubt that we are teaching through unprecedented times. Resources like these can have such a profound effect on the mental health of our schools as we navigate through.
