My Project
Acquiring and maintaining the latest technology can be a roadblock for STEM classes and makerspaces. Not only can the equipment be expensive, but materials and consumables used by it can make it unfeasible for lower budgets. By using readily available materials that are either cheap or free, I hope to do more hands-on projects with my students while still teaching them the important elements of technology, engineering, and design.
With the tools to reuse paper and cardboard, my students will be able to bring their ideas to life in the classroom.
Cardboard and paper are everywhere and often get thrown away or recycled after only one use. With the tools to recut and reuse these materials, my students will be able to build and test almost anything they can imagine without breaking the budget. My goal is to use these readily available materials in numerous projects across multiple classes and grades for many years to come, giving students hands-on experience in making and being creative.
Many of my students have had little or no chance to make things in their lives. By empowering them to bring their ideas to life, I can help boost their self- confidence and teach them in ways that work the best for them.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
