Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each and every day these little minds are putting it all together. Not only are they learning to decode the words, they are learning to make meaning of the stories they are reading.
These students are bright, curious thinkers with a desire to learn.
Some students are just learning English. Others are starting to sharpen their English skills. There are also students who have difficulties learning in the same way as the other students. No matter the barriers they have to overcome, they all strive to do their very best. We have a limited number of devices and computers in the classroom that cannot meet the needs of all 20 students in my room.
My Project
Besides using this resource as another way access to their online reading tests, the students will be able to create digital retellings of the texts we are reading as a group and individually. Using iMovie, the students will take pictures or videos of the stories and use their own voices to retell what happened in the story. This not only helps students with an important reading skill but allows them to do so in a creative and hands on way. Being able to demonstrate their understanding in other ways than writing on a piece of paper is so very important, especially for those students who learn differently.
We were very lucky to have our last project funded, however, due to a change in the availability we received one more powerful iPad mini instead of two.
This additional iPad will bring us to the four iPad minis in the classroom so that each table will be able to work on their project. This will also allow four individual students to use the iPads at one time as well. All of this will help the students be able to think critically and create content while being successful in reading.
