About My Students

Our Gardening club are like-minded middle school students looking to benefit our community by learning about growing and tending to a garden. Before we even begin gardening and donating the food we grow and composting any food we don't use, we need to address the lack of resources to do this! The composting club in our school doesn't have the best growing conditions or resources and the kids are striving to improve it with the help of our community.

These students are willing to work very hard to complete their goals and improve our school's garden.

Gardening and working with the land you have is something many students don't have access to and is a skill learned best by doing. They've been able to identify needs and our hope is that through their teamwork and commitment, they can work together to bring in the resources we need to get started planting seeds and watching them grow! We have a few dates planned this spring to clean up the school grounds and prepare the soil for planting. They have committed to to watering and nurturing the plants as they grow. They should then be able to see the 'fruits of their labor' from start to finish.

In Their Own Words

Our goal is to create a garden to grow food for others in need. We also would like to compost all of the food students don't finish at lunch and use that dirt in our garden to keep it active like a life cycle. We hope this garden would be a place for beauty, peace and happiness in our school and community!

The students are the ones leading this project!! With the skills of all of us combined we will be able to accomplish something beneficial for the whole community. This project will help us become better leaders and show us that hard work pays off and that one person can make a difference.

The importance of this project will benefit the whole community since the food we grow will be donated to the food bank. Earlier this year we learned that fresh food is hard to find and quite expensive. Also the amount of wasted food during lunch will be decreased since the composting will turn the wasted food to dirt(black gold)
