My Students
Our students are in a lower class, rural area. We have a large number of students who are being raised by grandparents, as well as a large number of transient students.
Students are not able to come to school with basic supplies.
They don't have fancy cell phones, or personal devices either. The clothes are often not washed regularly and many rely on the school to provide basic needs.
We have had food drives and clothing drives to help our students with those basic needs. We also get support from local food banks and clothing banks.
My students are running out of school supplies. The $1 scissors are broken, or their fingers just do not fit in the holes, and the pencils were gone long ago. My stash from the beginning of the year is gone as well. We still have lots of learning to do!
My Project
We are not finished with school yet! We need some supplies! My parents did great this year stocking me with glue, paper towels, and disinfectant wipes.
However, we are running out of supplies.
The pencils are non-existent. My stash is gone. We have cleaned lockers looking for them with no luck. Part of the problem is the pencils that were bought do not sharpen well. So my students will sharpen and sharpen until there is nothing left. Then I sharpen and sharpen until there is nothing left of another pencil. I am hoping a good quality sharpener will alleviate the sharpening issue, along with better quality pencils. The scissors I have are just too small for their fingers. They just need scissors with larger finger holes. These will be numbered, assigned and stay in my classroom. Thank you!
