This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to participate, learn and experiment. They come from a low-income under-served part of Los Angeles. 93% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school is predominantly Latino, with a smaller population of African American and Filipino students.

My students love to learn by doing.

They make hypotheses and connections, do experiments and report back on the results. They understand the engineering cycle, and they work hard to continuously improve their results.

Most of all, my students are hard workers. They always impress me by how resourceful they are. They know that college and career readiness are their goals, and they are ready to change the odds in the inner city.

My Project

I run my engineering class like an open workshop - students can take what they need and use it immediately. Last year, I had some very creative students. In my engineering classroom, they used supplies to build a miniature golf game, a foozball table, prosthetic arms, an automatic shirt folder and much more. The unfortunate side effect of having such an amazing and productive year is that those students used up much of the supplies in our engineering room.

We need to supply our engineering room with the basics so that we can have another successful year.

With your help, we will purchase the basics - duct tape, hot glue, crazy glue, ping pong balls, rubber bands, and so much more. These supplies become the basic building blocks to help students realize their visions. With your help, we can help students turn their dreams into reality.
