FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Joy's classroom raised $453
This project is fully funded
Each year I ask the students in my class to read two books over the winter break and one book during our spring break. More often than not, they argue over the few "good books" in our classroom library. When those are checked out, I find that the remaining students are not likely to read at all.
I have a few distinct groups of students in my class. The poetry girls, the sci-fi & fantasy boys, the drama queens and the series readers. Any book is great for the series readers as long as there is a part two, three and four. The poetry girls like books by other teens and write their own poetry as well. The Harry Potter and Eragon boys would race to the end of a new 600 page novel every week if they could.
And there lies the problem. We just don't have the books available. Most students do not have parents who can afford to spend money on books as often as they would like. You might be surprised to know that kids like to own the books they read too.
So what I would like to do is give each student books to read over the winter and spring breaks. Books that the students would really like to read and not just the books that were on sale at Target.
