My pre-k classroom is in need of new rest time/sleep mats. Currently, the mats we have are ripped, falling apart, and have missing pieces of foam cushion. As part of our schedule, students have an hour of rest time daily. A recent study shows that classroom naps support learning in preschool children by enhancing memory. Not only is sleep important for children’s bodies, it’s also important for their brains!
"Children who napped performed significantly better on a visual-spatial task in the afternoon after a nap and the next day than those who did not nap."
Rest time is an important learning opportunity for self-regulation. One of my main responsibilities as a pre-k teacher is to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for my students to learn and grow. It is essential for students to have comfortable and secure sleeping arrangements for their well-being and learning. My students get up around 5:00 a.m., take long rides on the morning school bus, have a full day of learning and activities, and then stay in after-school care. Their little bodies and minds need time to rest and recharge. Having a comfortable and secure sleeping arrangements is essential for their well-being and learning.
These contemporary sleep mats would be a wonderful addition for our class so that my little learners can rest, reset, and be ready for more learning.
