This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a self-contained bridge classroom made up of students from Bangladesh, Africa, South, and Central American Countries. Our students have a variety of needs and benefit most from visual, tactile, and auditory learning. They are also English Language Learners. When children have opportunities daily to hear rich language, practice using language, and have others around them to do it with, they CAN develop a stronger vocabulary. This helps in all areas of their lives; academically and socially. These skills are what many students struggle with due to their classifications.

Ensuring equitable access for students with disabilities requires a multi-sensory approach.

Unfortunately, schools are cutting budgets and resources are not as available as they once were.

My students come from extremely low socio-economic backgrounds. Parents have difficulty supporting their schoolwork at home, due to language barriers and hardships of daily life. I'd love to be able to provide my students with the resources and tools they will need to be successful learners despite being in-person daily or going 100% remote.

My Project

My students require a lot of repetition as well as opportunities to hear and work on their language development. Children need access to appropriate and effective tools, especially if they have learning disabilities in addition to being Second Language Learners. My students range in age from 6-8 and all require speech language therapy along with other related services. Children learn best when given multiple means of access.

Putting tools and resources in children's hands, children can use at home during remote learning, in addition to their devices gives them an opportunity to work on developing their language and vocabulary skills, their fine motor and writing skills, as well as their critical thinking skills.
