My students need Clorox wipes, Puffs facial tissues, foaming hand sanitizer, and healthy snacks like Goldfish crackers and Smartfood popcorn to keep our classroom healthy and clean.
I challenge you to find students as dedicated as the ones at my high school. They come early, stay late, and some even work through lunch. My school's start time is 7:40; however, students are frequently here much earlier. They come early for review classes and to get help with homework.
Rushing out the door as the sun rises does not leave them much time to enjoy a healthy breakfast.
In addition to coming early, some stay until 4:00 or later to take advantage of the quiet work space that the school offers. After that, they go on to sports practices or games. I have no doubts that my students will notice a difference in their bodies after consuming a healthy snack in place of their usually Doritos and energy drinks.
My Project
This project was inspired by my hard-working seniors who frequently skip meals or eat junk food from the vending machines. With all of their time spent on school work or extracurricular activities, many of them do not take a moment to enjoy a healthy meal. In addition to healthy snacks, we are also requesting Clorox wipes, Puffs facial tissues, and hand sanitizer to keep the classroom clean.
Something simple, like having soft facial tissues and hand sanitizer available, will help to prevent the spread of germs and keep students in school.
I didn't have to teach long before I noticed how quickly germs spread in my high school classroom. They share desks, pencils, and devices. Because they frequently work in small, intimate groups, if one student gets sick, they all get sick.
These supplies for a clean and healthy classroom will help students stay in class and be focused on the day's lesson.
