Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an urban high school which lacks the necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. I have taught here for 16 years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students. Over the years I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified artistic experiences as I can.
My Project
It is always necessary to have the proper materials in the classroom for the students to use. The students need to learn about materials and which ones are the best to use together. We always use markers for drawing projects which accompany the ceramics projects we make. With large classes the materials go fast and we are often left without many of the necessary colors needed. I would like my students to have the materials they need so they can produce art the way they envision it to be. Having the right materials is also beneficial to creating positive motivation.
