This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every child has the right to an education and the right to have all the tools to learn. My students are learning to read and are at a lower grade level in reading then their peers. They need books that are interesting to read but are written at a lower reading level. They need a safe place to find books so they don't feel shame or embarrassment.
My students often come from low income families.
Most of their parents cannot buy them books, They rely on the school to provide what their child needs. If I don't have books available for these children, there is no place else for them to get them. We often take reading for granted, that it's something all of us just learn to do. But imagine you have a very difficult time reading, that you don't have access to basic necessities, let alone books.
My goal is to help my students find that joy in reading. I want them to build confidence, and to always have the stepping stones they need to be their very best selves to the world. There is nothing like seeing a student light up while telling you about it.
My Project
Our new classroom library will provide endless opportunities for my students. My students will be able to learn new things about non-fiction topics. Students will also learn about various authors and their techniques of righting. It will give them the opportunity to use their imaginations as well.
My students will have a safe place to come to get leveled books at their reading level without feeling ashamed in lower grade level classrooms.
The new library will give them worlds to explore beyond their horizons and new cultures and people to learn about, new mysteries to solve. It will give them a chance, and that's all they need.
To ensure our library stays organized our new cart would be a fabulous edition.
