Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Currently, our school district is closed. We were sent home March 12 thinking it would be for a month and we are not returning this school year. We still have five weeks of school left. Many scholars have struggled with distance learning and being unable to leave their homes. As a Title I school, many children depend on the district for grab and go meals now and do not have wireless systems in their homes to complete assignments.

Many of my scholars are depressed and disturbed at being confined indoors.

In an urban area that has experienced the highest number of deaths in the country, many of the kids have not been outdoors in five weeks. The supplies will foster creativity and allow them to learn and practice academic enrichment through tinkering, discovery and exploration.

My Project

While being confined to small spaces, children become quickly bored if they do not have activities and stimulating things to do. Makerspace supplies will enable them to be creative, make tangible projects, and explore something new and fun. Having access to resources will make quarantine seem like the school of innovation. The paint, mica color, resin and coaster molds will allow innovation and creation like they have never experienced before. Scholars can make and personalize their own coasters.

These resources will foster social-emotional learning during this pandemic.

These supplies will enhance learning and foster creativity and excellence by releasing stress and tensions.
