This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items I've chosen will help our school to enhance our "Zen Den". This is a calm, quiet place that students can visit when they need to reset. Our students face a great deal of challenges outside of their school day that often lead to anxiety, depression, and other impactful mental health issues. We believe it's important to provide a safe and peaceful place for students to come to calm down, breathe, and refocus on a positive growth mindset. We want our students to practice self-care and value their mental health. By encouraging them to utilize this space, they are in a place that is safe and where they know they are cared for.
We often provide snacks to students who often come to school hungry, or to those who need a boost of energy to keep them going.
Providing them with tools to help manage anxiety or ADHD, no matter how small, gives them comfort so they can be their best selves.
Making our counseling department an inviting and encouraging place helps our students when they need to talk so they can make positive choices, and prepares them to be at their best for learning in the classroom. Young people who learn to care for themselves will be better prepared to go out into the world and care for others.
