My Students
How can you educate children from other countries when a school district is under budget constraints so supplies are not adequately distributed when needed? It is difficult to receive supplies from home and the district does not have the budget for supplies. I am a 4th-grade teacher in a low-income community. I teach a very diverse population.
Most of the children I teach are the first English speakers in their families.
The community is made up of individuals of Hispanic, Jamaican, Haitian, and Middle Eastern backgrounds. This a very difficult situation because so much school is missed because they often act as translators in order for their guardians to conduct business. The school is located in the middle of a low-income residential community.
My Project
Fourth grade will begin the process of learning how to gather research. Students can use the iPad during group research, exploring the internet for big ideas, classroom apps, and more. The iPad is a great way to take research to the carpet. Most of the devices are not touch screens so students still need to have physical notebooks. The iPad can store materials by group connecting Google Drive, One Drive, and other cloud storage. In addition, students can use the iPad during shared reading and read-aloud time. This will add engagement and class collaboration.
