Help me give my students non-fiction books to help them while they are researching during reading/writing and science.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. T.'s classroom raised $292
This project is fully funded
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, I see that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. We spend a big part of the day together, and one of my goals is to always provide them with authentic, meaningful experiences on a daily basis.
My students are inquisitive, curious and very eager to learn.
They love to learn about new things and especially love hands-on activities. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, some of these things may prevent them from acquiring the life experiences many of us see as "typical.” From the minute they walk into my classroom, my job is to not only teach them but to make their day a memorable one. I want them to leave my class on a daily basis thinking learning is fun!
My Project
Have you seen the common core standards recently? Well if you have, you already know how rigorous they are. The children in Kindergarten are expected to research topics and write an informational piece on the topics they explore.
Having more of these resources in my room would help my students learn about different "grade level" topics and write reports on them.
The children in my class need more engaging books that are on their grade level and are easier for them to complete this task (among others) and prepare them for the skills and strategies they need to become better writers.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
