Help me give my students need this laptop for research on careers in computer science and engineering.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Hawkins's classroom raised $1,003
This project is fully funded
My Students
My target students are in the 7th and 8th grades at a Title I school in the Delta with a very high population of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. They are incredibly bright and eager to learn. They love working on inquiry-driven projects that require them to work together and apply 21st-century skills. This project will allow students from varied economic backgrounds to work collaboratively with the teacher to prepare them for the workforce they will enter.
My Project
Today's students need to know more than just the basics of math, science and language arts. The students in my classroom today need to be ready for the high pace, high skill, ever-changing world that they will move into. It is a world where computer science and technology will be at the forefront of everything they do. That is why computer coding is such a critical skill for students to be on top of. Another critical skill for my students is financial literacy. I would not be surprised to find that many of my students think their parents have a money tree in their backyard.
Today's students need to understand how to be financially stable, and they may find that a foundation in computer coding and robotics will help them be ready for the jobs they will one day fill.
In class, my students will be exposed to computer science and coding in a fun and unique environment. They will be learning the higher-level skill needed in a technology-based society, but that will be fun. It is my hope that this project will help inspire the next generation of computer engineers.
We will also be researching careers in computer science and engineering in an effort to find out just how many good-paying jobs there are in this area. As we do this will be doing some monthly family budgeting to discover how much it actually cost to live on your own in today's world. We will use sites like PlaySpent and some of the financial resources from Everfi to expose students to the need to find a good job that will provide the lifestyle they hope to have.
