My 9th graders are full of dreams and hopes. They want to be CEOs, beauticians, physical therapists, teachers, and movie stars. They love life and try to live it to the fullest even though they live in a poverty-stricken area. They are my heart and I try my very best to get them to see their potential - which is unlimited. Reading is not their favorite past time, but when they become hooked, magic spreads like wildfire. I adore them.
My Project
When my students get hooked on a story, they can't wait to finish it and discuss it. These books will make their "required reading" morph into a genuine interest in stories. Our low - income area makes it difficult to supply high interest books on a regular basis. I cannot keep up the demand for new books with my paycheck alone or the meager classroom funds allotted in the middle of the year. This can encourage not only a love of reading, but a love of learning. This will most definitely improve the Growth Mindset of our classroom. Please help!
