Representation Matters

Help me give my students representation in books, art supplies, and even bandages.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Evans's classroom raised $361

My Project

I teach students that are mostly African American. I am white. I make a point to learn and teach Black History and do it with respect and with the tenderness and boldness that it deserves.

I want my students to be able to walk in my classroom and know that no matter what they are accepted and loved but not only that, they are SEEN.

I want my 1st graders to know that when they walk into Mrs. Evans' classroom there will be books with children that look like them as characters. Those characters are strong, beautiful, graceful, and important. I want my students to know that when we create art in our classroom, they don't have to mix and match colors to MAYBE create something that looks like them....they will already have colors that match their skin. I want my students to know that when they need a bandaid that there are options that are actually the same color as their skin.

What is really interesting is that I have teachers who will make a point to come to my classroom for things because they know my classroom is inclusive. These bandaids will even be great for students who are older and don't want a character bandage on them.

I would really appreciate any help you are willing to give to help give this to my students.
