My Project
Help Me Give My Students Books About Racial Justice and Representation
As a teacher, one of my most important goals is to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and valued in our classroom.
That starts with the stories we share and the voices we lift up. I'm seeking support to build a classroom library that reflects the diversity of our world—one that includes books centered on racial justice, identity, and representation.
These books will have a powerful impact on my students. When children see themselves represented in literature, it validates their identity and helps foster a strong sense of belonging. For others, these stories open windows into different perspectives, building empathy and a deeper understanding of the world around them. These are not just stories—they are tools for growing kind, thoughtful, and inclusive human beings.
Adding these titles will also strengthen our classroom community. They will spark important conversations, encourage critical thinking, and support social-emotional learning. Students will have the opportunity to explore themes of fairness, courage, and resilience through the lives of characters who reflect real-world experiences. This helps create a learning environment grounded in respect, compassion, and equity.
As an educator, these books will help me grow, too. They challenge me to reflect on my teaching, become more culturally responsive, and better support all of my learners. They help me model what it means to be a lifelong learner—curious, compassionate, and always striving to do better.
With your support, we can make sure every child in our classroom not only sees themselves in our stories but also learns to appreciate and stand up for others. Thank you for helping us build a more inclusive and empowering space to grow, read, and learn.
