Representation Matters-Books With Characters That Look Like ME

Help me give my students diverse books to build a classroom library to broaden their horizons.

My Project

I absolutely LOVE that my students are the most inquisitive, compassionate, empathetic, consistent, and brilliant students no matter what comes their way. My students come from an array of ethnic, cultural, academic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Regardless of what statistics may say, most of my students LOVE sitting with a hard-copy book and reading during our breaks and some during lunch. I believe that Reading is a foundation to learning.

Sparking their interest in reading with characters that they can see themselves in will keep them reading and interested in reading.

Students in my classroom like to read about real-life, characters with similar experiences and backgrounds and technology. It is my hope that once students read these novels, they will want to continue reading and that my reluctant readers who might be on a lower reading level, will find something within these texts to spark their interest and encourage them to keep reading.
