My Project
Hello! My name is Ms. Evelyn. I am a second-year teacher at a school that is still organizing a dance program for the first time. Many of our students are low income and have never been a part of a dance class. Teaching students teamwork skills and building foundations of creating a strong community within their school is key to a child's successful life. We hope that having costumes that can represent the students' culture can help enrich their experiences as dancers and performers.
Growing up with dance gave me the life skills that helped me achieve the position I have today as an educator.
As a first generation Latina, the lack of representation in dance was very hard growing up. Now, as an educator, I am able to teach my culture and share my knowledge of dance to my students.
As part of being a culturally responsive teacher, I hope my students can see representation of their community and themselves through dance. This also helps other students to be exposed to other communities outside their own. The students will also be able to represent their community and school with ease at different events.
With your help, we would like for our students to achieve these skills and excel in so much more. We hope that with your donation, our students will be able to learn new skills by building on their confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork, community building, and overall better health. Please help us provide a new safe space in our school for students.
