Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Although I teach performing music ensembles, I like to have books about music theory, music genres, and musicians for my students to read when they finish their work early. Giving students this opportunity allows them to explore the broad history of music and their individual interests while building upon their literacy and comprehension skills.
The books that are requested in this project are all geared towards representation in music. My goal is for my students to be able to see themselves represented in the music industry/history while learning about the musical achievements of these artists. In fact, many of these artists of color created music and/or supported racial justice changes in our country today. I am excited for my students to receive these books that will expand their view on music.
