This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had the feeling that you are less or unwanted? Were you that kid that was picked last for teams during recess? If it happened to you, then you know very well the pain and stress that this caused and how hard it was for you to concentrate in class.
My students live in inner-city Los Angeles.
They attend a school that is nestled between train tracks and factories. For the most part, they qualify for federally funded lunches. Many struggle with reading and have limited English skills. Although many of my students live a hard life, they greet you with a smile. They strive to do their very best in school and always aim to please. At such an early age, my students know how important a good education is and that the only way to succeed is to work hard.
My Project
I am requesting five copies of Bullying In Schools to teach my students strategies on what to do if they are ever in a bullying situation. I want to teach my students where to seek help and how to use words to stand up for themselves. I want them to learn that it is OK to ask for help. I am also requesting newsprint and pencils because I want to institute a safety system where students write down accounts of bullying that happen in the yard during recess and lunch. I want all students to feel safe and to know that their peers are watching. In addition, I am also requesting instant reading and writing centers so that students can practice writing skills that will help them take good notes outside during recess. The instant learning centers will help my students learn how to write clear and concise sentences for their bullying incident reports.
Please consider helping students that need support in character education.
Some may think that bullying is a part of growing up, but it is not. Bullying needs to be stopped and the best way is to instruct students what to do in case they are bullied. Keeping eyes open for any sign of bullying will help reduce the bullying problem. I can't think of a better way to beat bullying than to arm students with the anti-bullying strategies.
