My Students
My classroom serves a lot of highly tactile learners. We are a society of creators. I would like my students to be able to see the fruits of their labors by seeing the designs they create come to life.
I teach middle school.
As we all know, pre-teens need to be engaged and excited about their learning. As the technology teacher, I have the ability to engage them in what is both their present and their future.
Our school serves high needs students for whom school is often the most stable element of their lives.
My Project
We have been working on 3D designs and the students would like to print them - from cufflinks for dad to house furniture for their Spanish class projects.
They will learn how to model as well a how to build scaffolding into their designs to support the build of their project.
They will also learn how to scale their projects and think about conservation of material. My students need a new printing plate and supplies for the 3-D printer. The acrylic one melted!
This project will allow students to feel successful in the moment to know that what they did was "right."
Additionally, they will be able to share their knowledge with each other.
Finally, they can learn from both themselves and each other how mistakes can help them improve.
