This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science, social studies, and incorporate art daily. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
Help bring my students into the 21st Century with 3D printing! This exciting technology would both fascinate my students and motivate them to take part in project-based learning in the classroom.
Although my students are young, they are very bright and love projects and learning tasks that involve hands-on materials.
Working with technology such as a 3D printer will be a new and exciting experience for them. I would like my students to be given the chance to combine art with science, math, and technology. They will learn how to find plans for building 3D items on Thingaverse.com, and with the new Replicator Mini, printing these items will be an easy click of the mouse!
We will "print" toys, jewelry, figurines, and lots of other fun items. After using the 3D printer and taking the time to use our printed items, the students can write about their experiences. Once the printer is at our school and we become proficient at using it, there will be more projects to come.
Please help us to bring this printer to our classroom! With your donation, you will be helping to make this dream come true for my students! Thank you for taking the time to read and consider helping us!
