I am the librarian at an urban elementary school in Brooklyn that serves an incredibly diverse group of students, nearly half who come from low-income households. We have students from all over the world, and one of the things they have in common is that they love to read!
Due to the rapid school shutdown in March, our library suffered huge book loss.
Many favorite student titles are now missing from our library. This year I am traveling from class to class trying to provide reading materials for students. Unfortunately, many of the books they are asking for are not currently part of our collection.
I want students at my school to be excited to check out books and to be able to provide them with the newest titles so they can keep growing as lifelong readers and learners.
My Project
Our students love the school library! They know they can come in at anytime and find the newest and best books to encourage them to love reading and also to grow as readers. Due to the school shutdown in March, our library suffered huge book loss. Many of the most popular titles are no longer part of the collection.
This year I am traveling from classroom to classroom to provide books for my students.
I want to be able to provide them with the titles they ask for and are excited about. Please help to keep our school library services a vibrant part of our community to support our students during this unusual school year!
