My Students
Kindergarteners! I've waited a long time to be able to teach my dream job, and it's finally here. My class is special because every year they develop such a great bond. I love that they are able to develop a classroom community and I can't wait to teach them the skills that will develop it further.
Right now my focus is on literacy and making up for instruction time lost last year.
I want to give them a great foundation and provide normalcy during a benchmark year. I hope to make this year just as special and meaningful as any other, but students are far behind due to the learning gap caused by the COVID-19 shutdown.
My favorite thing about children this age is their adaptability. They are so resilient and can adapt to any changes that come their way. I want to nurture their curiosity so that it isn't wasted. Like most 5 year-olds, the questions are never-ending, but it's so wonderful to see how much they want to know. Whether it's letters or numbers, they always want more.
My Project
There are many restrictions this year due to the pandemic. One of the guidelines that have made the most impact on my classroom is not being able to share supplies. Kindergarten students use a TON of materials every day and the materials we started out the year with are disappearing.
Each student must have their own supplies and we are quickly running out of resources.
My 16 students love to craft, build, draw, engineer, and manipulate and we don't currently have enough to keep doing the activities we love so much.
