This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
On Sunday, February 10, my portable classroom got destroyed by a fire. In addition to losing their home away from home, my students lost many items that were dear to them. The school can only provide $250 to replace what was lost.
My students come from all different backgrounds.
Over 80 percent of the students at our school are either on free or reduced lunch and most do not have extra money for engaging books or school supplies. Many students speak languages other than English at home. All of them love to read and were therefore devastated when they learned that all of our books in our classroom were ruined.
My Project
We would like Dr. Seuss books, pens, chair pockets, and a microscope to replace the ones we lost in the fire. I had hand-made chair pockets for my old classroom, but am much too tired- after remaking everything else for my room- to do that again! We had many well-loved Dr. Seuss books that got ruined in the blaze, and we need to replace the felt-tip pens we lost as well.
Our classroom has begun to return to normal, however we are missing a few items that would help things run more smoothly.
We would really appreciate if you would consider donating to our room. My students have been wowed by the generosity of donors from this site multiple times this year (and in the past month alone!) It is hard to ask for even more generosity- but, my students and I would really appreciate it! Thanks for considering helping our project!
