This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I am looking to replace books that have gone missing or have found a loving home with a child desired to start their own library at home. I am hopeful that you can support this project to promote literacy. Replacing these books will continue to support our thriving library. My homeroom students read during the school day, but they are able to take their books home to promote and extend literacy outside of the classroom. Many of them do not know about public libraries or about discounted bookstores, but this is my way to help them understand the concept of book borrowing, taking care of books and exchanging.
My motto has always been to let students read what they love until they simply love to read.
In addition, on Fridays, students who have had a great week by earning "stars" are able to pick prizes as a reward for their excellent behavior. For the first couple weeks, students have been excited to get different toys, trinkets and fidgets for the hard work. The fidgets and toys are simply to encourage positive behavior and motivation.
