Help me give my students durable headphones, basic supplies like markers and pencils, and the chance to experience reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
My class consists of 26 different personalities, learning styles, and abilities. Though each come from different backgrounds, we all have the same goal - to get "a little bit better" and "a little bit wiser" every day.
I teach in a title 1 school, so many of my students come from low income families.
Anything donated to my class will go a long way to helping them be successful.
My Project
These past few years have been tough on our students; emotionally and academically. This project consists of four items. Three of which are basic, yet essential supplies that are needed for every day learning, and the fourth is a book experience that I hope will open a new world of reading to my 5th graders.
I am requesting a new set of headphones, some dry erase markers, pencils, and a class set of the novel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
In my 9 years of teaching I have never had new headphones for my students. We have always used the random leftovers from other teachers, or I have asked that students bring their own from home. This year it has finally caught up with me. I only have 10 pairs left for a class of 26 students. We use headphones for a variety of reasons in class. The main one being for two reading programs that are designed to help boost my below-grade-level readers.
Along with the headphones, I am asking for some dry erase markers and pencils. Somehow these supplies are always running out, but they are crucial to helping students succeed. Having a backup supply would be extremely helpful. And lastly, I am asking for a class set of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The students read the first of this novel in 4th grade, and I would love to read the sequel in the hopes that it encourages my students to read the rest of the series. Many students just need to find the "right" book to decide whether or not they're a reader. I'm hoping that this series will help them discover that.
