Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Spanish in a public school in Manhattan. My students are a diverse group in all aspects, ethnically and socioeconomically. They are energetic, fearless, and very creative. My students have a lot of personality and love teaching me about new apps and everything to do with technology, as well as the new music they are into. This is the first year our school is offering AP Spanish language and culture, and with that come some challenges. However, the students are determined to do well and so far have exceeded my expectations.
Because of COVID-19, the school year brings on new challenges and it is now more important than ever to have technology that works and is reliable.
My Project
In order for remote teaching to be successful, teachers must be equipped with quality technology and resources. I am requesting a laptop, document camera and a lap desk that I will use to teach live lessons to my students on Zoom on a daily basis. The laptop will allow me to be able to create and deliver engaging lessons for those who will be remote and those who will be in school. Creating fun, engaging, and meaningful lessons are more important than ever, and in order to do that, the laptop is needed. The document camera will allow me to share texts, activities, and their textbooks since we will not be able to share books anymore. It will also help me model for the students how to write and edit their work. Finally, the lap desk will help the laptop not overheat since the school day will be spent on the laptop the entire day. All these materials will be used on a daily basis for the students who are remote and for those who will have blended learning.
