Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my district are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom.

Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our students and their families have been severely impacted by the pandemic; the impact extends beyond academics to social-emotional health, and general well-being.

Our students love to learn, but as we approach the start of the new school year in which students will be learning in a remote model, we need to do everything we can to set them up for success. We will take the lessons learned during the spring's remote teaching and apply them as we begin to transform teaching and learning moving forward. We will do whatever is possible to keep the spark of learning alive--along with the enthusiasm, effort, and resiliency that defines our students.

My Project

As we approach the start of a school year that will be like no other, with students learning in a fully remote or hybrid model, we need to do everything possible to set our students up for success in their learning.

As a digital learning coach, I will be holding live virtual webinars, office hours, and coaching sessions with teachers, as well as tutorials for students and parents.

These sessions are recorded and posted on our website for anyone to go back and view, to support remote teaching practices and access for students. The tools that I am requesting--a webcam, light ring, and microphone--will improve the quality of the audio and video recording that I do with my personal laptop at home, and since they are all easy to transport and set up, I can also use them if I go into school to stream and record from there.

The mic pack will be great to use if I record from a classroom using tools to engage students, especially for the virtual coding and robotics club I am planning. In the future, this will be a great tool for my students to have to record themselves narrating robotics and other STEM projects--because the technology and digital skills that students are going to develop during remote teaching are going to transform the way students learn moving forward, even when we are finally back in school.
