This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a first grade self-contained bilingual [Spanish], Special Education class located in a low income area. All the students are English language learners and they are mandated to receive related services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and counseling. These students require unique and differentiated modes of instruction to succeed. The students in my classroom. Additionally, they benefit from multi-sensory approaches to learning. My students are in need of writing materials such as paper, notebooks, pencils, colors, glue, scissors, etc. They also need need other aides to support their learning such as magnetic letters, white boards, picture cards. They already have a few math manipulatives and some teacher made charts.
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day or the same way." George Evans
It is my duty as a teacher and a human being to guide them so they have more opportunities to learn what it is necessary for their future.
My Project
I would like to purchase writing materials for the students in my class since it is very hard for them to type on a computer. They are running out of the necessary tools to complete their writing tasks. The "draw and write" journals they will receive are great for them so they can use them to write their own stories. They will have space to illustrate and record every day events and write about fiction and non-fiction topics. They will be able to express their creative while they learn how to write. I have also added pencils, erasers, sharpeners and white paper for them to color.
My students love to draw and they will be able to use the paper and pencils to complete their writing tasks and make drawings to enrich their wonderful stories!
