Our school community is very diverse with a large cultural rainbow which enriches the full experience of the school. We have an ELL population which covers over half of the student population and over a dozen languages spoken. As a classroom teacher, I have a great opportunity to teach my students cross-curricular standards.
So many of our students come from low-income and immigrant families.
Our school is the only exposure they have to enriching activites, in many cases. Our school offers many programs such as art, STEM, music, dance, and theatre, which many children would not receive outside of school. They truly love to come to school every day and I truly love being there to greet them and witness them make new discoveries every day.
My Project
My thirsty-for-knowledge remote learning second graders need school supplies to learn effectively from their homes. They log into the Google classroom everyday and give it their all. They are facing unforeseen circumstances, as the rest of the world's learners, with such a positive and inspiring attitude. I am proud to call myself their teacher.
The purpose of this Donor's Choose project is to make learning from home easier and more efficient with the right supplies.
My students need notebooks for daily lessons, storage/supply bins for their books and supplies, arts and crafts supplies for projects, and wipe-off boards for daily lessons. With these items, the students can mimic a fully functioning personal home classroom, the one they truly deserve.
I plan on creating a gift basket for each child with the items and delivering it as a gift. The smiles on their faces may overwhelm me with emotion, and as our first face-to-face experience, it will be one we never forget. Your donations will make this possible, you will be giving the gift of learning to these very special second graders.
