This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My early intervention occupational therapy students are remarkable young human beings in need of support in developing their motor skills. All of my students are on the autism spectrum, a condition that often inhibits learning through imitation. This fact is the primary contributor to the reduced fine & gross motor skill development that is common for children on the spectrum. Due to the distance learning protocols put in place by our school district, early intervention students are not coming to school to learn. This has led to regression in motor skill development among the special education, skills that are essential in developing writing, crafting, and social literacy through interactive work & play.

My Project

These supplies will ensure our students on the autism spectrum continue to develop their fine motor and visual motor integration capacities during remote learning lessons.

The use of visual arts to develop pre-writing skills has been shown to support literacy development for children on the autism spectrum.

These special watercolor crayons allow children to first draw then paint on this special watercolor paper to ensure quality results. By beginning with fine motor and visual motor skill development these items will ensure children continue with their pre-writing skill development during remote schooling through artistic activity.
