My Students
Fourth grade is an exciting step before the last step of elementary school! I am a Special Education teacher working in Brooklyn, NY with students with autism. My students are enthusiastic learners with amazing abilities and have many different needs. We are a class of eight students, all eager to learn. We are currently located in a STEM school, and the goal is to have these students be included with their other peers as much as possible by learning to be comfortable with the environment around them.
My students are amazing learners who are highly motivated by technology and visuals, and would benefit from learning to incorporate technology in an academic way.
Our classroom is their safe haven, where they are provided with the best supports that heighten their abilities while strengthening the areas they need improvement in. My goal is to do the best that I can to have them achieve their personal goals as well as achieving grade level goals.
My Project
These laptops will give students an opportunity to practice fine motor skills through learning how to type, which prepares them for when they are older and may need to type essays for college, careers etc. These laptops can also provide students with 1 on 1 help through online computer programs, increasing the amount of time to practice on skills.
With unprecedented events such as the Coronavirus, students need to be prepared to learn in different settings, which they were not prepared for in this case.
They can also learn how to be tech-savvy and type essays, stories, and more. Some of our learners love writing and have expressed how physically, it would be easier for them to type rather than physically write long papers. Our learners are very highly motivated through technology! These laptops can aid our kiddos across all subjects: Math, Science, Reading, Writing, etc.
Our kiddos are learning to conduct meaningful research for projects done inside and outside of the classroom, and these laptops are a perfect way to explicitly teach such a useful skill.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
