Help me give my students a school social emotional lending library which will consist of children's books that their teachers and parents can borrow and bring home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This bookshelf and books will help the students at my school and their families process their feelings and make it easier to focus on the fun stuff- LEARNING!
One of my students passed away suddenly and I needed resources to help my students understand their grief.
Parents also need resources to help their child cope with their classmates' death. During this time of grief my students have been confused, sad and even upset and angry that their friend is no longer here. This class is special because they always have been kind and loving to one another which always helped my students learn and grow. I want to talk with them about their grief and feelings in the hopes that it will help them become focused students.
This tragedy gave me the idea that our entire school needs tools and resources to guide our children not only through the grief process but other feelings in different situations. We work hard with the students to help them understand that all of their feelings are valid.
My goal for this project is to help our students become ready to learn by giving them ways to cope with their feelings. I am asking for Social Emotional books to make a library that any teacher or parent in the school can check out. I will advertise these resources and let teachers and parents know the book topics covered in our library. They can email me and borrow the book. I am also asking for a bookcase and bins to store the books. I will make bags to transport the books from school to home.
Our school will never forget our friend. And this library can help every child in our school become the best student they can be.
