Remember Those Great Albums? We Do But We Need A Turntable!

My students need a turntable and a replacement needle.

My Students

There is a special sound that comes from an album playing music. Remember that scratchy sound and maybe an occasional skip in the music? We miss those sounds. Our turntable turns no more! We have many educational albums, holiday music and marching music not being used. We miss them!

My class is a cross-categorical special education class.

I serve kindergarten age students. This is a full-day program. My students have a variety of disabilities, including autism, cognitive disability, speech delay, cerebral palsy, other health impaired, emotional disability and developmental delay. My students live in a high poverty area, so their opportunities are limited. My students are inquisitive and excited about learning. Providing them with as many new experiences as possible is a high priority. Some of my students have been in a half-day special education classroom for 3-4 year olds, but others have not had prior schooling. Keeping the learning environment fun and inviting for the children is a key to their continued learning. Music is a very important part of doing this. They learn while singing and keeping time!

My Project

There is a special sound when a Hap Palmer album is being played! Grover on Sesame Street still steals little hearts. I have so many albums that stimulate learning. This turntable will bring these dusty albums back to life. Music helps focus a learner's attention. It helps aid recall of information. Music stimulates interest in subjects across the curriculum. There are songs for every occasion and subject matter. Music creates a positive avenue to learning. This turntable will be a very valuable tool in my classroom.

Music uses so many of our senses.

It encourages students to use auditory, visual, kinesthetic and tactile modes to enhance learning experiences. We dance, sing, rhyme, repeat, clap, stomp and play along with instruments. This turntable will allow my students the opportunity to listen to a variety of excellent music I have available in albums. I have been hearing that albums are coming back! Please help us be one of the first classrooms on the block to have a classic turntable for albums!
