it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For the past 13 years I have coached one of the most successful endeavors at my school- the Academic Decathlon team. Cumulatively we have an over 35-year history of consistent, superb academic performances (placing at the State Finals 28/35 years as high as third place) that range from objective testing (Economics, Social Science, Math, Language Lit, Art, Music, Science) to the most wonderful (and dreaded) of all subjects- speech. Year after year my decathletes struggle with the mental stress of studying and competition, persevere and push themselves to perform and successfully compete at the highest levels against selective enrollment schools. Coaching public speaking, speech writing and the ability to deliver that speech in front of an audience is some of the most important work we do as a team and for myself as the coach, BUT also some of the most draining for my students' mental health.
With this reMarkable tablet, our Academic Decathlon team can engage in speech preparation and brain games using our digital PDF and e-book materials, speech flash cards, quizzes, as well as display their outlines/speech drafts in large font as they work their way through the speech process, using games and mental puzzles to do better.
Every year, we struggle to use a single, thin, heavy-duty device for the whole team to share as they begin to stand in front of each other and practice their creations.
With your generosity, we can add this device to our competition and training repertoire, as well as use it to engage the mind in puzzles, brain teasers, etc to encourage competition and success. This year's topic: Climate Change!
