My students need 48 different books including "Saving Zoe" and "Rules"..
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Cornet's classroom raised $723
This project is fully funded
I teach 9th grade Language Arts to a predominantly male student population. We are a small school on a formerly comprehensive high school campus. Our school has large portions of low-income and immigrant students. Many of our students are below grade level (some significantly below) in reading, writing, and math.
On the first day of school, I asked students to describe themselves as readers... More than half my students struggled to think of the last book they'd read, yet every single one of them was able to describe what kind of book they WANTED to read: stories about kids like them!
My students need books to help pull them back into the wonderful world of reading. I am asking for an assortment of 48 different novels that will allow these kids to dive into the experiences of others. These books will help my students become more competent and confident readers -- a skill that will translate directly into the rest of their lives. The books range in genre and subject -- all aimed at helping them "find themselves" in literature.
Your donation will help my students become life-long readers. It will make it possible for my students to read about people who look like them, who share their own life experiences; characters that my students can relate to!
More than half of students from low‑income households
