Do you remember the excitement you felt as a middle school student reading a thrilling book series that kept you on the edge of your seat? I want my students to experience that same excitement and joy, so that I can instill a love of reading in them. I want students to know what it's like to read for pleasure rather than reading just to fulfill a requirement.
My students are hard-working, enthusiastic learners.
Their growth this year has been phenomenal. I would like to reward them with the second and third books in The Testing book series. Students recently finished the first book and actually requested to read the rest of the trilogy. It is exciting when students ask to read. I want to reward their enthusiasm
My Project
Overall, I would classify most of my students as reluctant readers. Being required to read less than entertaining texts throughout their school careers has made my students less than enthusiastic about reading. It was my goal to find a book that they would actually want to read. I succeeded when I introduced them to The Testing. They quickly devoured the book and enthusiastically requested to read the rest of the trilogy.
Donating to this project will help foster a love of reading in 75 seventh grade students.
Additionally, reading these novels will help them engage effectively in collaborative discussions, improve reading comprehension skills, and promote analysis, reflection, and research skills.
