My Project
One of the many effects of the pandemic was the removal of class sets of books from the classroom. Instead of books, students were given short stories and poems printed out to read. Due to this, many students have lost their reading stamina, or the ability to see a novel through to the end. In an effort to bring books back to the classroom, our grade level chose Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie.
This is a book that hooks even the most reluctant reader--full of sarcasm, relatable moments, and a life lesson that gets students thinking.
Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie is an engaging novel about a middle school students whose whole world revolves around girls and band class. The only things stopping Stephen? He's a skinny geek with an annoying brother. However, his whole world gets turned upside down when he finds out his brother has leukemia.
Right now, we are still working with some really run down copies. If we could get a new full class set, that would allow us to reach all 7th grade students at our school. We also have materials on hand to covers the books and keep them going strong for years to come!
