My students need 10 cushions to help with excessive movement while listening to classroom lessons.

My Students

Some students have a very hard time in transitioning from one activity to another. Some students demonstrate excess movement without being aware of it. Some students can not sit in their chair or are not aware of other student's space when sitting on the floor.

Many of the students that I work with have a hard time sitting in their chairs.

These are the students that need support with cushions, vests, fidgets etc. Students benefit from extra equipment in the classroom that can help the student maintain less movement and get sensory, input , which allows for an increase in attention.

My Project

These cushions will be used in the classroom for chair seating and when a student is on the floor. These cushions can also be placed under the desk for feet movement. Some students need this movement to maintain alertness and attention. Structured movement allows the student their movement and keeps them in their seats and in their own space. This gives them extra time attending to a lesson plan .

As the occupational therapist I am often called into a classroom to help the teacher with in class behaviors that interfere with teaching new skills and learning.

Relax...Refocus...Be Ready is a lesson plan with an activity that I include the entire class with. A booklet is created by the students of exercises to help them get ready for a new lesson. Sometimes other equipment is also needed such as weighted vests, seat cushions and other sensory ideas to maintain classroom attention.
