This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are always ready to learn and build meaningful connections with one another. This is my second year as a 4th grade teacher, and I want to be able to provide my students a meaningful learning experience, but also provide a classroom environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and acknowledged. By providing a calming area for my students I am acknowledging their emotions and allowing them to express themselves.
Having a nice calming area in the library it would benefit my students if they need a break and a moment of relaxation for them to enjoy.
A calming space, decorated with a rug, pillows and canopy will also help with building a strong classroom community. I plan to use the calming area so students can refocus, problem-solve, de-escalate, and draw so they can rejoin the class lesson when they are ready.
