This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Think back to a time when you were trying very hard to pay attention. You knew the information was important and would be beneficial. You tried to soak it all in, but it was a struggle. Why? Because you couldn't get comfortable. The chair you sat in was hard. Your seat kept tilting. The metal made a squeaking sound. If we can feel that way as adults, it’s the same for kids.

I want to use flexible seating options to enhance my students’ classroom environment.

Flexible seating options like wobble chairs, yoga balls, and stools will provide sensory input that helps students get their wiggles out and their information in.

When my students engage in group projects, they often have to work on the floor to collaborate. Yoga mats, floor cushions, and lap desks will help students work together comfortably. They can focus on the task at hand rather than spending more time settling themselves into a space.

This project will help provide different ways for my students to be present, I hope to not only enhance our classroom community, but positively impact classroom participation and student work with this flexible seating.
